Situation: For my master’s thesis, I undertook a research project focused on exploring the paradox of exclusivity and inclusivity within the luxury fashion industry. The primary objective was to investigate how incorporating male consumers can impact the relevance of luxury fashion brands, particularly in the context of the Gen X demographic in the United Kingdom.
Task: The task was to develop a research proposal that highlighted the necessity of greater inclusivity for male consumers in the luxury fashion sector. The aim was to demonstrate how addressing this inclusivity can help luxury brands maintain their relevance and success amidst the evolving fashion landscape.
Action: To address this task, I executed several key steps:
Research & Analysis: I conducted comprehensive research on the current state of luxury menswear fashion and its approach to inclusivity. This involved analyzing market trends, consumer behavior, and existing gaps in the luxury fashion industry regarding male consumers.
Thesis Development: I crafted a research proposal that addressed the significance of inclusivity in luxury fashion, specifically for male consumers. This included formulating research questions and objectives to explore the impact of inclusivity on brand relevance and consumer engagement.
Design Document Creation: I developed a design document to visually translate the concept of luxury menswear fashion within the context of inclusivity.
Conceptual Translation: I ensured that the design document captured the essence of luxury menswear fashion while reflecting the research findings. This involved aligning design elements with the proposed idea of inclusivity and how it could be effectively communicated to the Gen X demographic.
Result: The research proposal successfully illuminated the critical role of inclusivity in maintaining the relevance of luxury fashion brands to male consumers. The design document effectively translated the idea into visual representations, showcasing how luxury menswear can evolve to embrace greater inclusivity. This project not only contributed valuable insights to the academic discourse on luxury fashion but also demonstrated my ability to bridge research and design in a meaningful way.
