Role
Brand and Identity Designer
Situation: One of my first freelance gigs involved a comprehensive branding project for Crayon Chic, an online thrift clothing store. The client wanted a distinct and compelling brand identity that would highlight the store’s unique and sustainable fashion offerings while appealing to their target audience.
Task: My primary task was to develop a complete brand and identity design from scratch. This included crafting a logo, selecting typography, defining color palettes, and creating visual elements that encapsulated the store’s essence. The goal was to ensure the brand stood out in the crowded online marketplace and communicated its values of sustainability and unique fashion.
Action: To tackle this project, I utilized several key design methods and strategies:
Research & Analysis: I conducted thorough research on the thrift clothing industry, target demographics, and competitor brands. This informed my understanding of what design elements would resonate with Crayon Chic’s audience and set them apart.
Brand Strategy Development: I worked closely with the client to define their brand’s voice, mission, and values. This involved workshops and discussions to ensure that the visual identity aligned with their vision and goals.
Concept Creation: I explored various design concepts and created mood boards to visualize different directions. This included sketching logo ideas, experimenting with color schemes, and selecting typography that conveyed a blend of modern and retro styles.
Design Execution: Using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, I developed a versatile logo that reflected the brand’s playful and eco-friendly ethos. I also created a cohesive color palette and typography set that reinforced the brand’s identity. To ensure consistency across various touchpoints, I designed additional assets such as social media templates, packaging concepts, and website mockups.
Client Feedback & Iteration: I presented the initial designs to the client and gathered feedback. I then refined the designs based on their input, making adjustments to better align with their preferences and ensure the final output was polished and effective.
Result: The Crayon Chic branding project was successfully completed, and the client was thrilled with the results. The new visual identity significantly enhanced the store’s online presence, making it more recognizable and appealing to their target audience. The project not only showcased my ability to create a cohesive brand identity but also honed my skills in Adobe Suite and strategic visual design. It provided a valuable learning experience in balancing creativity with strategic branding and demonstrated my capability to deliver a professional and impactful design solution.
